Have you ever imagined how much adversity is there in electricity around the world? All countries follow some electrical standards and their electrical equipments are designed as per their electrical standards. It is why we should know about the electricity around the world.
Almost all electrical equipments are designed to work with minor voltage deviation depending on various aspects like demand and availability. There are many countries who are still using 220/110/127 Volt. However, they are now converting to 230 volt standard of EU. Normally, such disparity in the rated voltage is irrelevant because almost all the electrical equipments are designed to endure minor deviation of the rated voltage. Yet, it should be noted that so many deviations of voltage/current may harm components of the system.
The below mentioned table indicates the electricity standards adopted by most countries. This information is useful for travellers as well as my fellow electrical engineers. While this would be relevant for those moving to another country, it will be wise to keep their clothes dryers, air conditioners and arc welders at home. The voltages and frequencies mentioned here are approx values as reported to be used as residential as well as commercial supply. All of the electrical systems quoted in this article are considered to be using alternating current (AC).
Frequency has been displayed in Hz. Frequency is also important as even if voltage is kept constant, a 60 Hz equipment may not operate as desired on a frequency of 50 Hz.
