What is Audible

History of Audible
The first version was released in 1988. It was a portable media player known as the Audible Player. This device had a storage space of four megabytes. It could hold up to two hours of audio. In 2003, it signed an agreement with Apple Computer. The contract stated that they would be the exclusive provider of audiobooks for the iTunes Music store.
This contract came to an end in 2017. In 2005, Audible released Audible Air. It allowed the user to download audiobooks directly on smartphones. This product automatically updates the downloaded content and then deletes it after the user has listened to it.
On January 31, 2008, Amazon purchased Audible for an estimated three hundred million dollars. In April 2008, it started producing exclusive science fiction and fantasy audiobooks under the title of Audible Frontiers. They launched around 25 books.
Audio Book Creation Exchange (ACX) is an online rights marketplace and production platform. This connects narrators, producers and right holders to create new books. This was launched in May 2011. In 2012, Audible reported that it had received more titles from ACX. In the same year, A-list Collection, this is a series with Hollywood actors like Anne Hathaway, Dustin Hoffman, Kate Winslet and many more, read some of the great works of literature.
It’s efforts to make audio books narration a mainstream art form has extended to the narration workshop it offers at acting schools. In September 2012, the app added a new feature known as “Whispersync for Voice”, allowing users to continue audiobooks from where they left off reading them on Amazon Kindle. In 2013 its CEO announced that the company was the largest single employer of actors in the New York region.
